WHY PARENTS CHOOSE MONTESSORI

Dr. Marie Montessori believed in developing the whole child physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively and educationally. The program provides a stimulating curriculum in a nurturing environment.

From conception to age 4, the child develops 50% of his intelligence; from ages 4 to 8 they develop another 30%. This suggests very rapid growth of intelligence in the early years and the great influence of the early environment on this development.

These important milestones can never be recovered and thoughtful parents want to insure that their child has every advantage for development during this critical period.

Freedom of choice framed by a structured curriculum of tasks and activities is a key quality of a Montessori education. These activities foster curiosity and independence as children learn at their own pace while enjoying guidance from thoughtful, observant teachers.

The Montessori curriculum adapts to the growing needs of each child. Practical life activities instill personal care, grace and courtesy. Sensorial exercises help the child discover the environment through experience. Extracurricular activities help discover new talents.

Confidence, communication, exploration, self-discipline and independence are the building blocks of the proven Montessori educational experience that leads to a lifelong love of learning.

Summer Camp

During the summer we offer an outstanding summer camp for children four to eight years of age. There are excursions every single day that include The Smithsonian museums and Zoo, fantastic water parks, weekly children’s theatre movies, Georgetown Boat Rides and much more.

Early years provides a lovely and home like setting for infants and toddlers. Children remain on their usual schedule and participate in a special infant curriculum which helps develop intellectual and sensory and motor skills. Parents receive daily reports on the child’s behavior, eating habits and more.

Our Staff

Our teachers have a minimum of five years experience and all lead teachers have earned four year degrees. They are also certified in First Aid and CPR, Health and Safety and the administration of medication. All staff participate in annual professional educational classes and bi-weekly staff training meetings. Children’s assessments and development are reviewed continuously throughout the year. Children participate in educational activities based on development and not solely on age. Our teachers are professional yet warm and nurturing.

Special Classes

Specialized teachers provide daily classes in Spanish and Yoga for Kids is offered twice weekly as a part of the regular curriculum. Tennis is offered weekly for children three years of age and older.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Children are assessed at the beginning of each quarter. Teachers share this information with the parents which sets the initial benchmark. Parents and teachers continue to meet quarterly to discuss progress and often identify gifted areas the child possesses. This interaction leads to a wonderful partnership in child development that enhances the experience between the child, parent and teacher.

Our Parent Participation Association (PPA)

Our parents are invited to join The Participation Association. Parents hold all offices and meetings take place on a quarterly schedule.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parents are encouraged to act as chaperones on field trips, provide a story or music session, and share their careers with the children.

Special Visitors

The school enjoys a visit from the local police, fire department, pediatrician and dentist. The children also participate in annual screening visits from Fairfax county in hearing, speech and vision.
